Description
This exceptionally slow-growing bacterium preferentially replicates in the cooler peripheral areas of the body, actively destroying Schwann cells. It continues to affect marginalized populations in developing regions, though it is completely curable with multi-drug therapy. If left untreated, the progressive nerve damage leads to severe, permanent physical disfigurement and disability.
