Definition
Flat, discolored patches of skin that are lighter than the surrounding tissue.
Clinical Details
As the bacteria slowly infiltrate the dermal layers, they subtly disrupt normal melanocyte function and alter local blood flow. This creates distinct, faded patches on the skin that look like irregular, pale birthmarks. These specific lesions are often the very first visible clinical indicator of the prolonged infection.
