Description
A TMJ dislocation occurs when the condyles of the lower jaw slide too far forward and get physically stuck outside of their sockets in the skull. This can happen from extreme yawning, taking a massive bite of food, or suffering a blow to the chin while the mouth is open. The surrounding jaw muscles instantly spasm, trapping the jaw in its dislocated position.
