Definition
Uncontrollable spilling of saliva from the mouth.
Clinical Details
Because the mouth is locked open and the normal swallowing mechanism is severely disrupted by the abnormal jaw position, saliva quickly pools in the mouth. The patient cannot close their lips to contain it, resulting in continuous, uncontrollable drooling. Swallowing is difficult and highly uncomfortable.
