The mechanical inability to close the jaws together.
Clinical Details
The most prominent symptom is that the patient's mouth is stuck wide open, and they are physically unable to bring their upper and lower teeth together. The dislocated bone rests in front of a bony ridge that prevents it from sliding back into place. This is highly distressing and prevents normal speech.
