Description
A corneal abrasion is a painful scrape on the surface of the cornea, the clear dome covering the iris and pupil. It is frequently caused by getting poked in the eye, aggressively rubbing the eye when dust or sand is present, or wearing dirty contact lenses. Because the cornea is densely packed with nerve endings, even a microscopic scratch causes immense discomfort.
