Definition
The persistent feeling that something is stuck in the eye.
Clinical Details
The patient feels a gritty, scratching sensation, as if a grain of sand or an eyelash is trapped under the eyelid. This feeling persists even after the eye has been thoroughly flushed out with water. It is caused by the raw, exposed nerve endings on the abraded corneal surface.
