Acromioclavicular Joint Separation (CLINICAL)
Description
A separated shoulder is not an injury to the main shoulder joint itself, but rather to the acromioclavicular (AC) joint at the top of the shoulder. It typically occurs from a direct fall onto the point of the shoulder, tearing the ligaments that hold the collarbone to the acromion. This injury is frequent in contact sports like hockey and football, as well as cycling accidents.
