Clinical Details
Pain often radiates from the injured cervical spine down into the shoulders and upper back due to interconnected muscle groups and nerve pathways. The trapezius and levator scapulae muscles are frequently strained during the whiplash mechanism. This referred pain can mimic a shoulder joint injury despite the primary trauma being in the neck.
