Description
A patellar dislocation happens when the kneecap is forced entirely outside of its normal anatomical groove at the end of the thighbone. This trauma usually occurs during a sudden change in direction while the foot is planted, commonly seen in dancing, gymnastics, and football. It violently stretches or tears the medial patellofemoral ligament that holds the kneecap in place.
