Description
Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) clinically mimics hypoparathyroidism—presenting with low calcium and high phosphorus levels—but the root cause is fundamentally different. The parathyroid glands are healthy and produce massive amounts of parathyroid hormone (PTH) to compensate for the low calcium. However, a genetic defect in a specific G-protein causes target organ resistance, rendering the kidneys and bones completely 'deaf' to the PTH signal.
