Description
Trichomoniasis is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, which infects the squamous epithelium of the lower genital tract in women and the urethra in men. It is spread primarily through unprotected sexual contact and often presents without symptoms in male carriers. Symptomatic infections cause localized tissue irritation and significantly increase the risk of transmitting or acquiring other sexually transmitted infections.
