Description
This highly invasive bacterium penetrates intact mucous membranes or microscopic skin abrasions during sexual contact. It affects sexually active individuals and can be transmitted from mother to fetus, causing severe congenital defects. The disease progresses through distinct clinical stages, eventually causing catastrophic cardiovascular and neurological damage if untreated.
