Description
A metatarsal fracture is a break in the long tubular bones that connect the ankle to the toes. These injuries often occur when a heavy weight is dropped directly onto the top of the foot, or from a severe twisting motion during sports. A specific type, the Jones fracture, occurs at the base of the fifth metatarsal and is notoriously difficult to heal due to poor blood supply.
