Description
A periorbital hematoma is a localized collection of blood beneath the skin surrounding the eye, typically resulting from blunt force trauma to the face. Because the skin around the eye is exceptionally thin and loose, fluids easily accumulate in this space. While often a minor soft tissue injury, it can occasionally signify a more serious underlying skull or eye fracture.
