Definition
Massive, noticeable fluid accumulation and swelling in the tissues immediately surrounding the eyes.
Clinical Details
This is a classic, pathognomonic sign occurring during the acute larval migration phase. The systemic dissemination of highly allergenic larval antigens provokes a massive, whole-body allergic reaction and systemic vasculitis. The delicate, loose connective tissue around the eyes acts as a sponge, rapidly accumulating fluid and causing extreme facial swelling.
