Description
This profoundly disabling disease primarily affects children and adolescents in specific geographic regions with selenium-poor soil, often exacerbated by concurrent iodine deficiency and mycotoxin exposure. It triggers deep necrosis within the growth plates and articular cartilage of developing joints. This results in stunted growth, severe joint deformity, and aggressive osteoarthritis at a very young age.
