Definition
The abnormal physical thickening and swelling of joint structures.
Clinical Details
As the cartilage necroses and the body attempts to inefficiently repair the damage, the joints become heavily deformed and physically bulky. This is most visibly apparent in the interphalangeal joints of the fingers, the wrists, and the knees. The swelling is bony and hard, rather than filled with fluid.
