Description
An insulinoma arises from the beta cells of the pancreatic islets. Unlike normal beta cells, which precisely regulate insulin release based on circulating blood sugar, an insulinoma secretes insulin autonomously and continuously. This ignores the body's normal negative feedback loops, driving blood glucose down to dangerously low levels, particularly when the patient is fasting or exercising.
