Description
Chondromalacia Patellae is a degenerative condition resulting from abnormal friction between the patella (kneecap) and the underlying thigh bone (femur). Over time, poor kneecap tracking, muscle imbalances, or chronic overuse cause the smooth articular cartilage behind the kneecap to soften, fray, and break down. While it can be an early precursor to knee osteoarthritis in older adults, it frequently afflicts younger athletes and runners.
