Description
Albinism is caused by mutations in several genes that provide instructions for making one of several proteins involved in the production of melanin. This lack of pigment affects the coloring of the skin, hair, and eyes, and significantly impairs vision. People with albinism are highly susceptible to sun damage and skin cancer.
