Description
Klinefelter syndrome is caused by a random error in cell division that results in a male having an XXY karyotype instead of the typical XY. The extra genetic material interferes with male sexual development, often reducing testosterone production. Many men are not diagnosed until adulthood when they seek help for infertility.
