Description
Osteomalacia is the adult equivalent of rickets, primarily caused by a severe deficiency of vitamin D, which leads to inadequate absorption of calcium and phosphorus. The newly formed bone matrix fails to mineralize properly, leaving the bones soft, structurally compromised, and prone to bending. It frequently affects individuals with malabsorption disorders or severe lack of sunlight exposure.
