Description
This condition occurs when the body lacks sufficient iron to produce adequate amounts of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. It is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide, frequently affecting menstruating women, pregnant women, and growing children. The resultant lack of oxygen delivery to tissues causes widespread systemic symptoms.
