Description
Schmidt Syndrome is a rare, complex autoimmune condition where the body's immune system erroneously produces antibodies that aggressively attack multiple healthy endocrine glands simultaneously or sequentially. It is defined by the absolute presence of primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison's) coupled with either Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, or Type 1 diabetes. It primarily affects women and has a strong genetic component linked to HLA haplotypes.
