Thyroid hormones are directly responsible for regulating cellular thermogenesis, the biological process by which the body generates internal heat. As hormone levels plummet due to glandular destruction, the body's internal furnace effectively powers down. Patients constantly feel chilled to the bone, requiring heavy layers of clothing even in warm environments.
