Description
Presbycusis is a degenerative condition resulting from the gradual deterioration of the tiny hair cells in the inner ear (cochlea) and the auditory nerve pathways. Because these sensory cells do not regenerate, their loss leads to a permanent decline in hearing capability. It typically affects older adults, presenting bilaterally and gradually worsening over decades.
