Definition

The perception of ringing, buzzing, or roaring sounds in the ears without an external source.

Clinical Details

As the auditory nerve fibers degenerate, they can misfire and send spontaneous signals to the brain. This creates phantom noises that can be highly distracting and interfere with concentration and sleep.
