Description
Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) is a genetic polyneuropathy that causes the slow, progressive degeneration of the peripheral nerves, leading to muscle weakness and sensory loss. The disease stems from mutations affecting either the nerve axon or the myelin sheath, which disrupts the electrical signals between the brain and the extremities. Symptoms typically begin in adolescence or early adulthood, starting in the feet and progressing upwards.
