Description
Once ingested, the juvenile flukes emerge in the duodenum and actively migrate up the common bile duct to mature in the smaller hepatic biliary radicles. Their physical presence and toxic secretions induce severe adenomatous hyperplasia and periductal fibrosis. It is highly endemic in East Asia and is a known biological carcinogen linked to cholangiocarcinoma.
