Definition

An abnormally high and sustained concentration of eosinophils in the peripheral blood circulation.

Clinical Details

Eosinophilia represents a targeted, massive systemic immune response to the highly invasive and destructive tissue phase of the helminthic infection. The bone marrow radically overproduces these specialized white blood cells to attack the migrating larvae within the liver. It is a classic, defining laboratory finding during the acute hepatic phase of the disease.
