Description
The female scabies mite tunnels directly into the stratum corneum to lay her eggs, triggering a delayed type IV hypersensitivity reaction to her feces and salivary proteins. It transmits rapidly via prolonged skin-to-skin contact. The infestation is common worldwide, particularly in dense communal settings like nursing homes and daycares.
