Description
Nirmatrelvir binds directly to the main protease (Mpro) of the virus, completely inhibiting its ability to cleave the viral polyproteins required for viral replication. Ritonavir, a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, is co-administered to slow the hepatic metabolism of nirmatrelvir, keeping its concentrations high in the systemic circulation.
