Description
Sildenafil selectively inhibits PDE-5, an enzyme abundant in the pulmonary tissue, preventing the degradation of cyclic GMP. This accumulation of cGMP leads to smooth muscle relaxation and significant vasodilation of the pulmonary arteries, lowering pulmonary resistance.
