Definition
Noticeable swelling in the ankles, legs, and eventually the abdomen.
Clinical Details
As the right side of the heart begins to fail from the extreme workload, blood backs up into the systemic venous system. This increased pressure forces fluid out of the veins and into the surrounding tissues of the lower extremities.
