Definition

Harsh, noisy breathing during sleep caused by the vibration of relaxed throat tissues.

Clinical Details

As the airway narrows, the turbulent airflow forces the soft palate and uvula to vibrate intensely. The sound is often loud enough to severely disrupt a bed partner's sleep.
