A severely painful, fluid-filled vesicle that forms precisely where the adult worm intends to emerge.
Clinical Details
As the gravid female worm reaches the skin surface, usually on the lower leg or foot, she secretes highly toxic and irritating histamines. This triggers localized necrosis and the formation of an intensely burning blister that physically traps the anterior end of the worm. The agonizing burning sensation compells the host to seek relief by immersing the limb in cool water.
