Firm, painless, palpable masses located directly beneath the skin surface.
Clinical Details
Also known as onchocercomas, these nodules represent the host's fibrous encapsulation of the adult male and female worms. They are typically found over bony prominences such as the iliac crest, ribs, and scapulae, where the blackfly initially bit the host. These nodules serve as safe havens where the adult worms mate and reproduce for up to fifteen years.
