Definition

A severe, symmetrical loss of physical strength in the muscles closest to the torso.

Clinical Details

The targeted destruction of muscular capillaries deprives the large skeletal muscles of the shoulders, hips, and thighs of vital oxygen and nutrients. The massive muscle fibers slowly necrose and physically atrophy, completely robbing the patient of their core physical strength. Patients find themselves suddenly unable to climb stairs, lift their arms above their head, or stand up from a chair.
