Clinical Details
The highly ulcerated colonic mucosa completely loses its biological ability to extract and reabsorb water from the passing waste material. The colon acts as a slick, inflamed pipe rather than an absorptive organ, rushing the liquid waste straight toward the rectum. The urgency is often so severe that patients experience devastating fecal incontinence.
