Definition
The abnormal, involuntary drooping of one or both upper eyelids due to severe muscle fatigue.
Clinical Details
The tiny, delicate levator muscles responsible for holding the eyelids open are particularly susceptible to the blockade of neuromuscular transmission. As the day progresses and these muscles are continuously used, the remaining functional receptors become completely overwhelmed. The patient physically loses the strength to keep their eyes open, causing the lids to sag heavily.
