The physical, bilateral swelling of the major salivary glands located located just in front of the ears.
Clinical Details
The massive influx of aggressive inflammatory lymphocytes physically swells the architectural boundaries of the dying salivary glands. This intense cellular crowding creates visible, firm lumps on the sides of the patient's face that mimic the appearance of the mumps. The swelling is frequently tender to the touch and fluctuates in severity over time.
