The formation of tiny, irregular indentations or small holes on the surface of the fingernails or toenails.
Clinical Details
The autoimmune inflammation disrupting the epidermal cells also aggressively targets the specialized keratinocytes residing in the nail matrix. This abnormal cellular growth structurally weakens the nail plate as it forms, causing tiny fragments to crumble and fall out. The affected nails often become discolored, heavily thickened, and may entirely detach from the underlying nail bed.
