The abnormal enlargement of a joint due to internal fluid accumulation and tissue inflammation.
Clinical Details
Inflammatory cells flood the synovial membrane, causing it to thicken and produce excess joint fluid. This results in visibly puffy, tender joints that frequently feel warm to the touch. It most commonly begins in the smaller joints of the hands and feet.
