Gastrointestinal distress
Type: Symptom
Definition
A combination of watery diarrhea, severe nausea, and vomiting.
Clinical Details
While primarily a respiratory pathogen, the massive systemic inflammatory response and circulation of bacterial toxins heavily disrupt gastrointestinal motility. The bowels react violently to the systemic shock, leading to frequent, watery stools and an inability to keep food down. This symptom highly distinguishes this disease from other common forms of pneumonia.
