Definition
A sudden, unilateral weakness or complete paralysis of the facial muscles.
Clinical Details
The bacteria aggressively infiltrate the peripheral nervous system, causing severe inflammation and swelling of the cranial nerves as they exit the skull. When the seventh cranial nerve is affected, it instantly blocks motor signals to the face, causing one side to droop entirely. It visually mimics a stroke but is fundamentally caused by bacterial nerve damage.
