Definition
Severe joint pain that characteristically moves from one large joint to another.
Clinical Details
During the disseminated phase of the disease, the bacteria selectively invade synovial tissues, triggering an intense, localized autoimmune-like inflammatory response. One knee may swell and become highly painful for several weeks, only to spontaneously resolve before the pain inexplicably jumps to the shoulder or elbow. This wandering joint pain is highly debilitating.
