Definition
Faint, salmon-colored skin lesions appearing predominantly on the patient's trunk.
Clinical Details
Small clusters of the Salmonella bacteria occasionally embolize into the tiny capillary beds of the skin during the systemic bacteremic phase. This causes highly localized, microscopic hemorrhages and minor inflammation visible as faint, blanching pink macules. They are a transient but highly specific clinical sign of the disease.
