Definition
Inflammation of the uterine cervix accompanied by a yellow, mucus-like discharge.
Clinical Details
The bacteria infect the columnar epithelial cells of the endocervix, causing chronic, low-grade localized inflammation. This irritation provokes the cervical glands to produce an excess of cloudy, inflammatory mucus that may lightly spot underwear. Because the cervix lacks sensitive pain receptors, this symptom is easily ignored.
