Clinical Details
The virus rapidly replicates inside endothelial cells, causing massive cell death and destroying the integrity of blood vessel walls. Concurrently, the overactive immune response depletes the body's clotting factors, causing a state of disseminated intravascular coagulation. This results in spontaneous, uncontrolled bleeding from the gums, eyes, and gastrointestinal tract.
